PART 1 - Chapters 1 to 5

(Chapters 1 to 5 from Part 1 of the novel correspond to episodes 1 and 2 of the anime)

In Chapter 1 Saki describes The Holy Barrier and the seven towns: Waterwheel (水車), Hayring (茅輪), Pinewind (松風), Whitesand (白砂), Outlook (見晴), Gold (黄金) and Oakgrove (櫟林). She describes the towns as follows:

“In the center is where the town’s administration is gathered. On the eastern bank of the Tone River is the town of Hayring. To the north, in the middle of a forest dotted with big houses, is Pinewind. East of that, the forest opened up to the coastlands, where Whitesand is. Adjacent to Hayring in the south is the town of Waterwheel. On the other bank of the river toward the northwest is the town Outlook, whose name comes from its location. Lined up with the rice paddies in south is Gold, and Oakgrove is the westmost.”

She also talks about the canals leading off of the Tone River that wind through Kamisu 66 and people use them to come and go by boats (that being the only method of transportation in the district). Those canals can be seen in the map above, with some points of interest like the protagonists' houses and the principal buildings of the district.

Saki's lives in Waterwheel and explains that “(...) every town has water wheels, but our town has quite a number of them, and they made for a magnificent sight" explaining the name of the town.

Everything that happens between chapters 2 and 5 takes place inside The Holy Barrier, so this map should be enough guide for you. The only exceptions are: the trip Saki takes to the Temple of Purity in chapter 3 (but she does that in a windowless houseboat, so there are no clues of where is it located), and the summer camp that stars in chapter 5, but that's a bigger subject so I will tackle it in the next post, see ya' there!
